Do you think people want to have access to more security cameras so they can see wherever they can’t be? Do you think people want more security cameras watching them? One thing is for sure. No thief or terrorist (or naughty child, for that matter) wants to be caught on camera doing what they shouldn’t be doing.

More and more people are finding out new and creative ways of using security cameras, webcams (also called network cameras or IP cameras) to protect what is theirs AND to keep an eye on loved ones. We’ve all heard of the “Nanny Cam”, where Moms and Dads can see their offspring either at home with the Nanny or at the Daycare Center or school. The cameras let them know everything is OK or they may see nefarious things going on. Either way, they are kept abreast of what’s going on. How else could parents lead the frantic and frenetic lives they seem to lead. We are all guilty of trying to do more and maybe, seeing our family less.

So here’s the question, can’t we use cameras to “spy on” other people we rely on. What about the Nursing Home? What about watching how our Grandmoms and Grandads are being taken care of? There’s not much difference. Can you honestly say that the care they give in a Nursing Home is up to your standards if you’re not there to see what goes on day to day?

What about someone who is sick at home? We should, in theory, be able to keep track of our kids when they are too sick to go to school. (We may find out a thing or two!) A webcam on the wall in the media room or in our child’s room may be just what we need to make sure our kids don’t do what they shouldn’t.

As with all types of technology, we can not replace the touch of a human hand with the cold lens of a security camera. But we sure can help to keep peace between our children, or keep our home from being robbed.

That’s all for now. Next time, I will talk about how security cameras are used in commercial buildings. Bye!
